Many end users or wholesaler & retailers are often asking us when buying auto LED lights: After installation, Led headlight got flashing / flickering, or the dashboard fault light is on, even sometimes auto LED lights will interfere the car radio? Is there the quality problem or other?

Our answer is: No. It means your car needs a light decoder or a headlight that has been built in the decoder.

1 Why the above problems always happen when you replace headlights with LED headlights?

Situation 1: Some of the original car lamps’ control lines are controlled by the driving computer, while the working principle of the car LED headlights and the working current are different from the original car halogen lamp. After installing the LED lamp, it will cause the driving computer to detect the feedback signal of the LED headlight, so the dashboard will have a display fault lamp, so when the original light is replaced into an LED car headlight, it is necessary to install a dedicated decoder to the LED headlights.

After installing the LED lamp, the dashboard fault light is on, or the LED lamp flashes, this is because the current of the LED light cannot be similar or identical to the current of the original car halogen lamp, then an additional LED lamp decoder or an LED headlight with built-in decoder is required to increase the current of the car headlight circuit.

2 What are the types of decoders for automotive LED lights?

When upgrading the lamp, we have three decoders:

No.1 Resistance decoder

Decoding method commonly used for LED lights: Ohm Law R (resistance) = u (voltage) / i (current), for example, after the car is started, the current is 14V, LED lamp current 2A A 7Ω resistor is required. (How to know the vehicle current: You can use the Multimeter to read the vehicle current, taking the approximate value).

The method of resistance decoding does not apply to the LED car headlight, because the heating of the resistance itself is high and the power of the car headlight is high, which will cause the lamp and resistance overheat to greatly reduce the life span of the resistance and the LED lamp, so resistor decoder is only suitable for the other function lamps,such as Led fog lights , LED tail light , led brake light , led turn signal lights, led day time running lights ,led reverse/backup lights and led interior lights etc. .

The advantage of the resistance decoder: high decoding rate with cheap(affordable)price .

No.2 Capacitor decoder:

It is usually an increased capacitor to detect the pulse detection and waveform detection of the lamp through the automotive driving computer.

It is worth noting that the capacitor decoder needs to distinguish the positive and negative electrode, and the stable capacitance of the imported is selected.

Working principle of the capacitor decoder: Since the waveform value of the drive computer output is short, and can be absorbed by the capacitor, the current flowing to the ampler is a direct wave current, thereby achieving decoding.

Due to the continuous update of the vehicles (mainly trucks and cars), more and more vehicle models need to be upgraded to the LED headlights, the decoder with higher efficiency is required, the resistance capacitor decoder is born, it can guarantee the use of security and extending life-span, it also greatly increases the probability of decoding, which can be decoded for more models. Of course, its price relative to resistance decoder and capacitor decoder is also higher.

3 built-in decoder’s headlight V.s plus decoder’s headlight

Advantages of the headlights of the built-in decoder: one-stop solving decoding problem. However, many users are not sure if their own cars need to decode the headlights, if blindly purchased the built-in decoder’s headlight, it may cost more money.

Currently built-in decoded led headlights styles are rare and offer less choices.

Advantages of an external decoder: You can choose, simple, as long as the model is in line with, the procurement cost is relatively low, for novice users, not fully understanding the lights, and will not cause waste (waste money).
